TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – An ongoing Florida A&M University hazing case may finally be put to rest as the three remaining fraternity brothers yet to be convicted pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor hazing charge March 19.
Brian Bowman, 23, Cory Gray, 23, and Marcus Hughes, 21, entered the plea after two juries were unable to reach a verdict in their case. All three students received probation, including 30 days in the Leon County sheriff’s work camp, or a similar program.
As originally reported by CS, five fraternity brothers were originally tried together for violating the state’s new hazing law. After an initial jury could not come to a decision in the case, two of the students were found guilty of the hazing felony in the second trial.
The five frat brothers are accused for their roles in hazing prospective member Marcus Jones, 20, by striking him in the buttocks with a wooden cane and beating him in the head with fists and boxing gloves. Jones later required surgery to help heal a large bruise on his backside. He also suffered a broken eardrum.
