Published: October 9, 2008

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Parents and students at Gaffney High School were frantic after a mass text message rumor of a possible school shooting was sent out.

Police were called to investigate; however, it is believed that the school was not in any immediate danger.

Some students received the text message on the evening of Oct. 6 around 11 p.m. The message said that a shooting was likely to take place around lunchtime and urged the recipients to pass the information along.

As word of the text spread, students called their parents, who later arrived on campus to take their students home.
