CY-FAIR, Texas – The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District plans to spend $55 million to install nearly 4,000 security cameras at 85 campuses.
Each elementary school will receive 10 cameras; middle schools will receive 20; and high schools will install 40 devices, ABC13 reports.
Additionally, the district also plans to install panic buttons, two-layered security doors at all visitor entrances, bullet-resistant glass and visitor video monitored entrances.
Other upgrades will include a brand new digital radio system that includes five new radio towers and replacement of all UHF radios. Tri-campuses – campuses that include an elementary, middle and high school – will also install call boxes.
The district also plans to purchase more than 400 school buses to keep students from walking along dangerous roads.
The upgrade is part of a $1.5 billion bond package that was unanimously passed months ago.
Some parents and students have criticized the upgrades and questioned the need for the $55 million additions.
