Texas University Sued by Former Student Over Alleged Gang Rape

Published: October 16, 2008

FORT WORTH, Texas – A former student at Texas Christian University (TCU) is suing the institution for failing to protect her when she was allegedly raped by three student athletes in October 2006, according to ABC News.

According to the plaintiff, who goes by the name K.S. in court documents, Virgil Taylor, a basketball player for the university, lured her back to his dorm room by promising to pay her back money that he owed her. Once in the room, she was given a drugged sports drink, causing her to lose consciousness.

In addition to Taylor, K.S. said Lorenzo Jones, a football player, and Shannon Behling, a basketball player, took turns raping her.

The plaintiff claims a university sexual harassment officer urged her not to report the incident because it would be easier for her if she didn’t say anything.

The university maintains that they “separated” the three athletes after the attack. Jones said he was not involved in the incident, while Behling’s attorney said that everything was consensual. Taylor was not available for comment.

Earlier in the year, the case against the three was dismissed without prejudice. If any new evidence arises, the case could be reopened. The former athletes no longer attend the university.

In the current lawsuit, the university is charged with not providing adequate safety on campus.
