Authorities say the number of injured individuals from a July 22 drive-by shooting at a community rally at Texas Southern University is now eight, reported the Associated Press. Previously, university officials reported six injuries.
University officials said a “family block party” event – which featured a voting registration drive and HIV testing – was beginning to wind down when gunfire broke out around 8:30 p.m. During the incident, eight people ranging in age from 14 to 21 were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. University officials said at least one of the victims is a student at the university.
Police are looking for several suspects. Originally, it was believed that the shooting was a result of gang rivalry, but authorities have since downplayed a possible gang connection.
