SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A Texas elementary school principal is being hailed as a hero for tackling a gunman who was threatening students and teachers.
The visibly distraught gunman, who police say was John Zermeno, 26, had entered the front door of Rayburn Elementary School and went to the library, where school staff told him to go to the main office. They then locked down the school.
When the gunman arrived in the office, he told Principal Shannon Allen he had a gun. Allen, 31, was able to persuade the suspect to throw his gun in the trash. When he tried to retrieve his weapon, however, she tackled him, pinning him against the wall.
