Tennessee State U. Blocks Gossip Web Site

NASHVILLE, TENN.
Published: November 24, 2008

Tennessee State University has blocked a gossip Web site from access on its campus computer network. University administrators banned JuicyCampus.com, a free, advertiser-supported site, after a student’s mother complained about postings arranging for other students to beat up her daughter.

The site allows students from some 500 schools to anonymously write anything about their colleges, professors and classmates.

The Web site, founded by Matt Ivester, was intended to allow college students to share stories about their “crazy road trips and quirky college professors” when he launched it in 2007.

TSU is the first public university in the nation to block the gossip Web site.
