JACKSBORO, Tenn., In response to the Nov. 8 school shooting where a vice president was killed and two other administrators were injured, Tennessee State Senator Tommy Kilby is proposing a new law requiring schools hire more resource officers and provide better training to faculty and administrators.
According to Kirby and security experts, because Campbell County, Tenn., faculty members often must disarm students who are carrying weapons, they should be trained on how to best accomplish this often dangerous activity. Kirby and other supporters would also like this responsibility to be transferred to campus police when possible.
