A 17-year-old was arraigned September 10 after police say he walked into a high school in Western Michigan with a sawed off shotgun.
Dayvon Malik Davis, who has a separate felony case pending arraignment, was charged with firearm possession by a felon, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, resisting and obstructing police, felony firearm and being a fourth time habitual offender after the September 9 incident.
Several Muskegon Heights Public School Academy students reported to staff that two unauthorized teens had entered the school building. The staff members were able to locate the teens quickly because they weren’t wearing a school uniform. When faculty approached the suspicious teens they left and staff called the police.
When police confronted Davis near the school he dropped a backpack he was wearing and ran away. Officers later found Davis hiding under a vehicle and he was arrested, according to mlive.com.
The backpack Davis was wearing allegedly had a loaded sawed-off shotgun with its barrel cut down to 19 inches. There was one bullet in the chamber and three in the gun’s magazine, according to police.
Davis is not and never was a student at the academy.
A Muskegon County judge set a $100,000 cash or surety bond for Davis at the request of a Muskegon Heights police detective.
