High school student, Tucker Thayer, was killed after apparently shooting himself when a blank round discharged from a gun at St. George’s Desert Hills High School. The 15-year-old died of a head wound shortly before the play “Oklahoma!” was scheduled to begin on Nov. 15.

The school gave permission to use the gun, which was believed to be a fake weapon. The gun was supposed to be under the supervision of a parent at all times, and it is unclear how Thayer came in possession of the weapon.

The incident is still under investigation.
