Teachers Accused of Abusing Student With Cerebral Palsy

DOTHAN, Ala. − Two teachers with Houston County Schools accused of verbally abusing a fourth-grade boy with cerebral palsy have been placed on leave.

Melisha Salinas, the mother of 10-year-old Jose, attached a tape recorder to her son’s wheelchair. Full time special education teacher Alicia Brown and full time teacher’s aide Drew Faircloth were reportedly caught on tape badgering Jose for his “disgusting” drooling, MSNBC reports. The tapes also suggest Jose was left alone for long periods of time.

Community members launched a Facebook page in support of Jose. The page has more than 6,000 members.
