Published: January 26, 2006

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – According to a poll conducted by Santa Clara University’s (SCU) student newspaper, most of the school’s pupils are not aware of SCU’s disaster plans.

The poll also indicated that a majority would not know where to go if a disaster occurred on campus. Approximately 37 percent of the respondents knew where their emergency assembly point was located.

SCU’s Santa Clara student newspaper interviewed more than 100 students. Only slightly more than a fifth of those interviewed believed SCU’s campus safety officers would be able to maintain order during a disaster.

Approximately 60 percent believe SCU is adequately prepared and know what to do in an emergency.
