Superintendent Quits After Hidden Surveillance Camera Charge

Published: November 21, 2005

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, Texas, The Bruceville-Eddy school board accepted the resignation of the district’s superintendent Nov. 21. The resignation came five days after his arrest for placing a covert surveillance camera in a women’s restroom.

Dan Edward Doyen, 46, was charged with improper photography or visual recording on Nov. 16 but is currently free on bail.

He admitted to police that he bought with a district-issued credit card the camera disguised as an air freshener and placed it in the women’s restroom in the school administration building. According to court documents, he did this to obtain nude photos of office employees and female visitors.

Doyen, who had been superintendent since July 2002, will receive his annual salary of $87,500 through June 2006. He was originally under contract through June 2008.
