Students Hold Occupy Protests at 30 Calif. Colleges

Published: March 1, 2012

SAN FRANCISCO — Occupy Wall Street activists held demonstrations across Calif. on March 1 to protest state budget cuts to education. One demonstration partially shut down the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Cars and buses were prevented from entering the UC Santa Cruz campus by hundreds of students blocking the entrances, the Associated Press reports. Many classes were canceled and administrative offices were not fully staffed.

The demonstrations, held on about 30 college campuses across the state, were coordinated by ReFund California, a coalition of student groups and labor unions.

The demonstrations are part of Occupy Education week, which will end March 5 when activists go to Sacramento as part of Occupy the Capital, according to ReFund California’s Website.
