Students Arrested for ‘Attack a Teacher Day’ Facebook Invitation

Published: January 11, 2011

RENO, Nev. — Six female students were arrested on Jan. 7 for sending out nearly 100 Facebook invitations to “Attack a Teacher Day”. The girls allegedly posted threatening statements about six teachers at two middle schools.

Five of the girls attend Eagle Valley Middle School and one attends Carson Middle School. They were booked at juvenile hall on a misdemeanor charge of communicating threats, the Associated Press reports. They have also been suspended from school.

The targeted teachers were reportedly surprised by the incident, as many of the girls involved have high grades or hold school leadership positions. The Facebook posting listed the teachers’ names and stated that they would be attacked. No details were included. The students claim the invitation was a joke.

Parents of the students who accepted the Facebook invitation were also contacted by authorities.
