Student Sues District Over Beating

Published: December 5, 2005

HERCULES, Calif., A 17-year-old high school student who was beaten in a campus restroom is suing the district and eight of his alleged assailants. The May 6 assault was videotaped and widely viewed after being posted online.

The male student is saying officials at Hercules Middle/High School provided inadequate security and failed to protect him. He is also claiming they were aware of the threats.

Hassan Rahgozar, an Iranian-American, claims the attack was racially motivated. He suffered a crushed jaw and two black eyes as a result of the assault. He was previously attacked in the school locker room on April 29.

One of the assailants, a 16-year-old, admitted to taking part in the attack and was expelled. The other attacker, Eric Guillebeau, 18 and a nonstudent, was sentenced to a year in jail and three years probation.
