MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Officials said an argument two students from Mitchell High School had over the weekend ended when one of the students involved shot the other Feb. 11. The victim is in critical condition.
The suspect, a 17-year-old sophomore, shot a 19-year-old senior during a morning physical education class, authorities said. After shooting the victim, the shooter reportedly said to the coach, “It’s over now” before handing over the gun. Principal John Ware said the student did not attempt to run away.
The high school was immediately place under lock down following the shooting. Students were only allowed to leave the premises if they were accompanied by a parent.
The victim suffers from three gunshot wounds, according to the victim’s sister. Earlier, a victim who was inside during the shooting reported hearing three gun shots. The witness added the victim was shot multiple times.
Police took the suspect into custody shortly after the shooting. The weapon used was also recovered.
