A student group at the University of North Carolina (UNC) filed a formal complaint against the university’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) May 4, citing that the department intimidates, attacks and arrests protesters, according to The Carrboro Citizen.

The UNC Protesters Defense Committee filed the complaint at the re-accreditation public hearing for the public safety department. The group says that the DPS initiated violence against protesters during a nonviolent demonstration April 14. Additionally, on April 22, the group alleges the department acted inappropriately during an anti-immigration talk.
