CHATHAM, Ontario – A student from St. Ursula Roman Catholic School helped to free his bus driver from a seat belt after the bus flipped over on a muddy road on Monday.
Alex Waddick, 12, followed driver Phil Piggott’s instructions and cut him from his seat belt with a knife. Once Piggott was free, he and the five students on board the bus escaped through the emergency roof hatch, The Toronto Sun reports.
Assistant Fire Chief Ray Stone told the news source that a municipal road crew had been called to inspect the road, as it was in poor condition. Officials from the Chatham-Kent Police Service said the accident was under investigation.
No one was seriously injured in the accident.
