Spotlight on Campus Safety Director of the Year Finalist Richard Francis

Check out some of this Director of the Year finalist’s top accomplishments, as well as a photo gallery of him and his department.

Congratulations to Seminole County (Florida) Public Schools Director of District School Safety and Security Richard Francis for being named one of this year’s Campus Safety Director of the Year finalists.

Here are some of his notable achievements:

  • Placed a school resource officer (SRO) in every school in the district.
  • Restructured officer training to include mental health, de-escalation, Stop the Bleed, trauma-informed care, mentoring, bullying, advanced tactical training and crisis intervention.
  • With the assistance of district software developers, developed a hybrid student threat assessment digital dashboard tool that utilizes best practices from the Virginia Student Threat Assessment Guidelines, the U.S. Secret Service, the DHS, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Education.
