Southern U. Hires New Police Chief

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Southern University has named a former Baton Rouge Police Department captain as its new campus chief of police.

Ronald L. Stevens is expected to take over the job on Oct. 24, The Advocate reports. Stevens has expressed the intention to make the department more campus friendly and compassionate.

Former Southern Police Chief Michael Morris was fired last year in the wake of a string of television thefts from the university’s athletic department.
