RALEIGH — Classes at Shaw University have been canceled for the remainder of the spring semester after a storm damaged campus buildings and displaced nearly 150 students on Saturday. The semester was set to end on May 7.
Students will be graded on the work they’ve completed to date, the News Observer reports. In a statement released on April 17, Shaw President Dr. Irma McClaurin said she would “determine if summer school can be held on campus or will be available only online,” after an assessment of the campus has taken place.
Construction and cleaning crews have been hired to clear the campus and make it as safe as possible, according to McClaurin.
Commencement is expected to be held as planned on May 7.
