TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Three students at Florida A&M University were arrested Dec. 12 for breaking the leg of a freshman during hazing. The freshman was injured less than three weeks before a drum major was found dead on a bus after a football game, which was also attributed to hazing.
Aaron Golson and Sean Hobson were charged with hazing and felony battery, the Orlando Sentinel reports. James Harris was charged with hazing. The three are accused of beating Bria Hunter, a member of the school’s marching band, so severely on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 that she suffered bruised bones, blood clots and a cracked femur.
On Nov. 19, Robert Champion, a drum major in the band, was found unresponsive on a bus after the FAMU football team’s loss to Bethune-Cookman, the Associated Press reports. His death is possibly due to hazing.
An investigation into Champion’s death uncovered possible employee fraud and misconduct at the university, according to the Associated Press. Authorities have said the fraud investigation will now be conducted separately from the inquiry into Champion’s death.
