A 12-year-old in Texas and a 15-year-old in Virginia were arrested after allegedly making threats and planning to shoot up their schools.
Police are praising the suspects’ classmates for alerting police of the threat in both cases and the teens are currently locked up in detention centers.
The 15-year-old was charged with one count of threats to bomb or damage a building and one count of committing, conspiring and aiding and abetting acts of terrorism after several students overheard him making threats to bomb and shoot up Brooke Point High School in Stafford, Virginia.
A classmate reported the threats to the school principal, who alerted the school resource officer. Police discovered guns in the boy’s home, although they were locked away and secure, according to wusa9.com. Police say they believe the teen is depressed and angry at classmates because of “difficulties in developing relationships with fellow students.”
The 12-year-old was turned in by school administrators after a classmate reported that the boy was talking about shooting up Trinity Basin Preparatory in Dallas. The classmate said he thought the boy was joking until he brought a map to school detailing how he would carry out the attack on Oct. 29, according to wfaa.com.
The boy was charged with exhibition of firearms, a third degree felony. It is unclear if they boy had access to any guns.
