EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – As part of a regular meeting on Dec. 18, the Edwardsville Board of Education approved security officers for each of the eight elementary schools in District 7.
In an effort to prevent unauthorized access to school buildings, the main responsibility of the security officers will be to screen visitors. Beginning Jan. 3, security staff will be stationed by each school’s entrance, checking visitors’ identification and issuing visitor badges. Building access will also be made a priority in the district’s middle and high schools, where security officers will be reassigned to monitor visitor access.
The budget for the new positions will come from the district’s education fund, and cost an estimated $144,000.
