EDWARDSVILLE, Mo. — Two Gateway Regional Medical Center security officers have been charged in the death of a patient they restrained while he was having a psychotic episode.
Charles Knapp and Dylan Ritchie were both charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Anthony Burkey, St. Louis Today reports. Burkey was angry and uncooperative when the officers tried to move him, and they wrestled him to the ground and held him down until he was unresponsive.
It did not appear the officers were trying to hurt Burkey, Granite City investigators said.
