PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – A bystander assisted a security officer in capturing a robbery suspect at Potomac Hospital Oct. 3.
Around 9:50 p.m., the off-duty officer responded to a report of a man whose cell phone was taken from him outside of the emergency room. When the officer approached the suspect, 37-year-old Quentin Samuel, he was pushed and knocked to the ground.
A bystander, who refused to give his name for safety reasons, was on his way into the emergency room for treatment for his infant daughter. He saw the incident and immediately began to help the officer. Samuel, however, ran back inside of the ER and punched a nurse in the face.
Another bystander immediately called police. It took three additional people to assist the officer in handcuffing Samuel.
The officer was treated for severe injuries to the face. Samuel is being held without bond and has been charged with robbery, assault and battery, escape by force, attempted grand larceny and malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer. He is due in court Nov. 5.
