More than 45,000 Cornell University students, faculty and staff members are at risk of identity theft after a computer containing records was stolen. The computer includes information such as names and social security numbers.
According to an E-mail obtained by WENY TV News, the university is willing to pay for fraud counseling and credit monitoring for those affected by the breach. The E-mail was sent to the members of the Cornell community whose information was compromised.
The theft underscores the need for more vigilant security processes, says the E-mail. Along with the increasing number of Internet-enabled computer attacks, the university is continually working to improve its systems and practices.
