Seattle Student Credited with Preventing School Shooting
Police located the suspect with a loaded gun after the student reported his suspicious behavior.
Rainier Beach High School is a small high school with under 500 enrolled students.
Seattle police say a student may have prevented a school shooting when he reported a man’s suspicious behavior to a school resource officer June 10.
A man approached the student outside of Rainier Beach High School and asked the student if there were metal detectors at the school, according to the Seattle Times.
The man, a 35-year-old felon, was being searched for by police after he’d allegedly threatened to shoot his ex-girlfriend and others at the school. Administrators had also placed the school on lockdown.

After the student reported the question to a school resource officer, Seattle police located the suspect at a nearby community center. The man had a loaded 9 mm handgun and was wearing gloves when police took him into custody.
Now the man is being held on charges of suspicion of felony harassment, assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
“We belive the quick thinking from the student and a very prompt and timely police response potentially prevented something much worse,” a police spokesman says.
