School Security System Identifies Pedophile

SMYRNA, Tenn. — The security system installed at Stewarts Creek Elementary School identified a sex offender attempting to enter a school function on Oct. 22, according to News Channel 5. The school installed the system five years ago as part of a pilot program.

Eric Butler, a 36-year-old convicted pedophile and registered sex offender in Tennessee, intended to accompany his girlfriend — who has children enrolled in the school — to a book fair on the campus. The couple was asked to hand over identification at the office, in accordance with school policy.

According to the news source, the Raptor computer scanning system provided the school with Butler’s record after scanning his ID and immediately sent an alert to necessary school administrators.

Butler was quickly arrested and charged for trying to enter the school.
