JONESBORO, Ga. — The head of security for Clayton County schools, John Taylor Walker Jr., was arraigned on Dec. 6 on an allegation of bribery. Authorities say Walker offered campaign contributions to Clayton Chief Magistrate Daphne Walker in hopes of securing a contract to provide probation monitoring services for the county state and magistrate courts.
In 2009, Walker was acting as a government affairs liaison for a probation services company called Southeast Corrections while serving as head of security for Clayton County schools. Southeast Corrections and four other companies were competing for the contract, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Judge Daphne Walker, who was serving on the committee that was evaluating the bids, reported Walker’s bribe, and Southeast Corrections was removed from consideration.
Clayton County schools spokesperson Charles White stated that the district did not know of Walker’s work with the probation services company. The district is not expected to take any disciplinary action until after the criminal case is concluded.
