School Building Deemed Unsafe Following Heavy Snow

OXFORD, Conn. — Classes at Oxford High School were canceled for four consecutive days while the school underwent structural inspections. The school building – which is only three years old – is cracking under the weight of snow from recent storms.    

In total, students have missed 12 days of class due to the snow and snow-related structural damage, WTNH News reports. The original building contractor and a structural engineer have been brought to the campus to assess and repair the damage. A steel beam inspection was performed yesterday, but the building was not deemed safe. Today, large sheets of plywood were being carried into the school by construction workers.

Students have now lost their spring vacation and are accumulating extra days at the end of the year to make up for the canceled classes.
