SAN JOSE, Calif. – A knife-wielding man was shot and killed by a San Jose State University (SJSU) police officer on Friday. The man allegedly lunged at the officer and his partner before being shot.
The incident began around 11 a.m., after the suspect was seen carrying a large knife on campus, reports the San Jose Mercury News.
Both law enforcement officers followed him off campus where they ordered him to put down his weapon.
The suspect then charged at both officers with the knife raised. One officer used a Taser on him, to no effect. The other officer, identified at Sgt. Mike Santos, then fatally shot the suspect.
A spokesman for the SJSU police department said both officers were defending themselves. Neither officer was hurt.
