Sac State Chief Gets No Confidence Vote from Officers

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State University police officers gave Police Chief Daniel Davis a vote of no confidence after campus sexual assaults reached a record high for the semester. The vote, which was 14-to-1, reflects disagreements over Davis’ management style.

This was the second time officers had expressed dissatisfaction with Davis, The State Hornet reports. Last year, the union passed a resolution to make a change in the direction of the department’s leadership. Davis told the news source that he thought that the union’s public display of disapproval was inappropriate.

Davis increased management staff but did not hire more officers, which has been a concern for the union. Sac State police officer and president of the California Statewide Police Officers Association, Jeff Solomon, said that management staff often outnumbers patrol officers on campus at any given time.

The university, however, continues to support Davis.
