A lawsuit against Rolling Stone magazine over its publication of a since-discredited story was dismissed by a judge June 28.

U.S. District Court Judge Kevin Castel dismissed the defamation lawsuit filed by three members of the University of Virginia fraternity implicated in the story.

The judge found that the story, which detailed a brutal rape of a female student named “Jackie” at the Phi Kappa Psi house at UVA, used vague details that didn’t specifically implicate the plaintiffs, reports mashable.com.

Another lawsuit against the magazine was filed by the UVA chapter of Phi Kappa Psi for $25 million and is expected to have a better chance of success in court.

The lawsuits were filed after the rape story was largely discredited following further investigation into the alleged victim’s story. The story sparked public outrage over the reported lack of response from university officials.

Campus Safety has previously reported on the shortcomings in the story.
