SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Santa Monica Community College should have provided more police resources and a larger meeting hall during a Board of Trustees meeting last April that turned violent, according to an internal police report.
A campus police officer deployed pepper spray when dozens of protestors tried to force their way into the meeting, sending two people to the hospital, the Los Angeles Times reports. The report said that the confrontation would not have occurred if “the Police Department’s earlier request for a larger venue through proper channels, in March 2012, had not been denied.”
Critics of the report said it was incomplete and self-serving.
