MILFORD, Conn. – Police arrested a Quinnipiac University dropout on Sunday after she admitted to calling in bomb threats to keep her family from learning that she was not going to graduate.
Danielle Shea, 22, arrived at the graduation ceremony in a cap and gown with her mother who did not know she was not attending the university. When relatives did not see Shea’s name on the list of graduates, she panicked and called in two bomb threats to the Quinnipiac University library, hoping for the commencement ceremony to be cancelled, Reuters reports.
The ceremony was delayed for 90 minutes as an estimated 5,000 people were evacuated from the area and moved to an indoor location. No explosive devices were found on campus.
Police were able to track the threats to Shea by tracing the phone number she called from.
Shea told police that she was not able to register for the 2013-2014 academic year because of a delinquent payment. Although she told her mother in an effort to fix the situation, the problem was not resolved and Shea was not able to register for classes for either semester, My Record Journal reports.
Shea has been charged with falsely reporting an incident and first-degree threatening.
