Quebec Student Protesters Clash With Police

QUEBEC — Twenty thousand students gathered on Nov. 10 near L’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) to protest the Quebec government’s proposed tuition increases.

During the end of the demonstration, 13 students occupied the fifth floor of an administration building and other protestors outside encircled the building to prevent police from entering, The McGill Tribune reports. Soon after, students learned that acts of aggression were occurring inside the building.

After 5 p.m., one to two hundred police arrived in riot gear to disband the students around the building. Students were pepper sprayed and threatened with batons. Many students said they were surprised at the force used by police.
