Purdue Universities Hire Director of Public Safety

Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central, which will be merging in 2016, hired a director of public safety.

Two Purdue universities that are merging in 2016 hired a former police chief as director of public safety.

Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central hired Brian Miller for the position, which was created as part of the merging process that will create Purdue University Northwest for the 2016-2017 school year.

Miller, 53, has 26 years of law enforcement experience and reports to the vice chancellor of Finance and Administrative Services, according to nwitimes.com. Miller was the chief of the Hammond Police Department in Indiana until 2014 and holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration from Indiana University Bloomington and IU Northwest.

Miller’s duties will include overseeing the two campus police departments and directing emergency preparedness at both campuses. Miller currently has offices at both campuses.
