SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California community college and school district police officers have been included as part of a bill being considered by the state legislature that would enhance penalties for crimes committed against peace officers.
According to the California College and University Police Chiefs Association (CCUPCA), the proposed California State Assembly, Bill AB 635 amends Section 1170.81 of the state Penal Code to classify community college and school district police officers as peace officers when considered on-duty victims of attempted life term crimes. The revised classification will be considered a circumstance in aggravation of the crime in imposing a sentence for such cases.
