BOSTON – A well-known pediatrician has voluntarily put his North Carolina medical license on inactive status while he is being sued for allegedly sexually abusing his young patients several years ago.

On April 3, Dr. Mel Levine, the 68-year-old adjunct professor of pediatrics at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Medicine, agreed to stop seeing patients. Previously, he was chief of ambulatory pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Boston. He is also author of “A Mind at a Time” and other books on learning disabilities.

Levine, who says he is innocent, is currently facing a civil lawsuit where he stands accused of abusing seven boys from 1967 to 1984.
