Private School Dean Faces Molestation Charges

HARTFORD, Conn.
Published: August 17, 2009

A former school dean has been charged with molesting three students at an exclusive boarding school in Hartford, Conn. The dean could face up to 60 years in prison if convicted.

Richard Reinhardt, the former dean of The Gunnery, was fired and arrested in June after school officials learned of the allegations. According to the Associated Press, the alleged assaults involving a 14-year-old boy began in Oct. 2007. The student was allegedly forced to stay the night at the dean’s campus apartment. The boy’s parents removed him from the school in May 2008.

According to the lawsuit, the victim’s family is seeking unspecified damages from the dean, the school and school officials who supervised the boy’s dorm.

The boy’s attorney said two other victims have come forward; however, he said he believes more students were abused.
