Prank Causes $170K in Damage to Ariz. High School
GILBERT, Ariz.—Two Williams Field High School students have been accused of causing $170,000 in damage to the school. Both have been charged with aggravated criminal damage and interference with an educational institution.
The students, 16- and 17-year-old boys, allegedly used a lighter to trigger fire sprinklers on the second floor of the campus’ only two-story building on May 21, reports the Arizona Republic. Eight classrooms were damaged.
The Higley Unified School District is now looking to install $76,000 worth of video surveillance cameras at the 4-year-old school, as a result of the incident. Additionally, the school might hire a security parking attendant.
