Modesto, Calif., police shot to death a woman on a Catherine Everett Elementary School playground on Dec. 15 after she allegedly entered school grounds and began hitting herself in the head with a meat cleaver, reports Fox News.
Children were on the playground when Elizabeth Catherine Kropp, 43, entered the campus. The school’s principal Michael Brady distracted the woman while teachers moved the students into classrooms, reports cbs13.com. The school’s alarms sounded and the campus was placed on lockdown.
Kropp allegedly charged police officers with the knife before she was shot twice in the head. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Investigators believe Kropp had mental problems and committed “suicide by cop.”
No students or school staff were reported injured.
