Police Officer Killed While On Crowd-Management for Florida Basketball Championship

GAINSVILLE, Fla. – A Florida police officer was laid to rest April 8 after suffering fatal injuries while on crowd management patrol hours after the University of Florida basketball team won the NCAA Championship.

Lt. Corey Dahlem, 46, of the Gainsville Police Department died days after being run down by a drunk motorist at a street celebration. Officials say Austin Wright, 21, was driving under the influence when he drove his truck through a roadblock and struck Dahlem. Wright, a University of North Florida student from Atlantic City faces DUI manslaughter charges.

Dahlem is survived by his wife and two grown children.
