Houston police have arrested and charged a University of Houston student for allegedly killing a homeless man on campus earlier this year. The 32-year-old suspect, who told police he considers himself a vigilante, allegedly shot the homeless man in the back of the head while he slept.
Police had little information to continue the investigation until they learned of a report made by two friends of the suspect who claimed he had threatened them with a .357-caliber revolver. The witnesses told police the suspect had been boasting about the murder of the homeless man.
Police believe the revolver is the murder weapon. The student remains in Harris County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.
