Police have charged a second suspect in relation to the May 19 shooting at a Harvard University dormitory that resulted in murder, reports the Boston Globe.
Nineteen-year-old New Yorker Blayn Jiggetts was arrested June 9 in Harlem for the murder of 21-year-old Justin Cosby, who has been described as a drug dealer supplying customers on campus. Prior to Jiggetts’ arrest, police detained Jordan Copney, 20, for Cosby’s murder.
Per the Globe, Jiggets, Copney and an unidentified man planned to meet Cosby on Harvard’s campus to rob him of money and drugs. When police discovered Cosby’s body, they found a pound of marijuana and $1,000 in cash.
On June 10, Jiggets refused to voluntarily return to Massachusetts and will be held as a fugitive by New York authorities until further court action, which is set for July 8. When he is brought back to Massachusetts, he faces charges of first-degree murder, accessory after the fact, unlawful possession of a firearm and armed robbery.
Meanwhile, Copney pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in May and is being held without bail.
Additionally, two female Harvard students are suspected of being the link that brought the victim and the three suspects together. According to news reports, the three alleged assailants gained entrance to the dormitory because one of the female students had given them an electronic-access card.
One of the women was identified as Copney’s longtime girlfriend, Brittany Smith. The Globe reports that police said the three suspects hid in Smith’s dorm in Lowell House. Additionally, police found a weapon in a friend’s dorm room that Smith often used to store her things.
Chanequa Campbell, the other female student, was expelled from Harvard one month before her graduation. Campbell maintains that she did not offer her access pass to any of the suspects. Furthermore, she says she was taking a final when the incident occurred and had her key card the entire time.
