NEW YORK – A hangman’s noose was tied to the door of a black professor at Columbia Teachers College Oct. 9. Police are investigating it as a possible hate crime.

The noose was hanging on the door of professor Dr. Madonna Constantine in the mid-morning hours and prompted a student demonstration. Constantine has written extensively on racism, multiculturalism and ethnicity, and she teaches psychology and education at the college.

Law enforcement officials are viewing footage from campus security cameras to determine if the culprit can be identified. Also, according to WABC, the incident may be the result of an ongoing dispute Constantine has with another faculty member.
