LOS ANGELES—Gerardo Cortez, 26, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly threatening to shoot an AK-47 assault rifle at schools and a hospital in a Los Angeles suburb.
The series of threats began Sept. 9 when police say Cortez called the Covina Police Department and said he was at “Citrus Medical Center” and was going to start shooting people, reports the Los Angeles Times. Although the region does not have a “Citrus Medical Center,” several hospitals in the San Gabriel Valley were searched.
On the same day, the Monrovia Police Department received a call from someone threatening to shoot an AK-47 at a local middle school. Additional threats were made to a mall and two high schools.
Late last year, Cortez was arrested and sentenced for making bomb threats to a middle school, post office and government building in the area.
