PITTSBURG – Due to a ceiling collapse, students at Schenley High School, a 90-year-old historic building in Oakland, Pa., have been temporarily relocated to Peabody High School in East Liberty.
The school is currently sealed off to the public because, besides the fear that it may not be structurally safe, there are also concerns about possible asbestos problems, according to television station KDKA.
Despite some neighborhood residents’ hopes for the school to remain open, there has been talk that it may be closed permanently due to high building renovation costs, estimated to be between $50- and $90-million.
